No dog left behind

Animal lovers unite! With National Love Your Pet Day coming up, we’re celebrating the incredible connection between humans and dogs – the original pet. For people experiencing homelessness, this connection means more than you could imagine.

A constant companion, our furry friends provide comfort, company and entertainment by the bucketload. It’s no wonder that, according to the World Animal Foundation, there are about 13.5 million dogs being kept as pets in the UK today.

But when you find yourself experiencing homelessness, your dog becomes so much more than a pet. They help you to feel safe, they keep you warm, they are your friend and your family. They are your home.

Unfortunately, many homeless housing providers are unable to take in pets with their owners. In fact, according to the Dogs Trust’s directory, we are the only dog-friendly supported accommodation provider in Oxfordshire.

Imagine becoming homeless and having to choose between parting with your beloved dog to access accommodation or staying together and facing more nights on the streets. What would you do? It’s a terrible decision to have to make, but it’s a reality for so many people facing homelessness today.

At Homeless Oxfordshire, we know just how important pet dogs can be to people’s sense of safety, comfort and wellbeing. That’s why we will always accept the trusted pets of our residents. And thanks to support from the Dogs Trust’s Together Through Homelessness scheme, we can ensure all the dogs that stay with us get the veterinary care they need.

Help us keep people and their dogs together through homelessness
