How to leave a gift in your will

Leaving a gift

Whether you already have a will or need to make one, it’s simple to leave a gift and create lasting change. Firstly, you decide who you want to benefit - family members, friends, and any charities, then you decide what type of gift you want to leave to each of the loved ones you've listed.

Residuary Gift

A % of your estate after all other gifts have been given out to family and friends, this tends to be the most common gift left to a charity.

Pecuniary Gift

A fixed sum of money you wish to donate.

Once you have an idea on the type of gift and who you want to leave it to its then best to make an appointment with a solicitor – they will then be able to draft a will based on your wishes. Any residuary gift left to Homeless Oxfordshire will be taken off the value of your estate before Inheritance Tax is calculated. You can also reduce Inheritance Tax if more than 10% of your estate is left to a charity.

Whatever gift you chose to leave no matter the amount will positively affect the lives of hundreds of vulnerable people in Oxfordshire.
