This Friday is #WorldBookNight2021, The Reading Agency's annual celebration of books and reading that brings people from all backgrounds together for one reason – to inspire others to read more. 📚

This year marks the 10th anniversary of World Books Night, with this year's theme being “Books to Make You Smile”. ☺️

At the Homeless Oxfordshire Book Club, we are celebrating our very own World Book Evening, with our second book club session this Friday night! 🤩

We started our club to create a community of book lovers, to make our supporters smile through the love of books and most importantly, to bring joy to our clients' lives.

Every subscription helps someone to move on from homelessness. We're excited that we can begin the creation of a lending library that will contain brand new books for our clients and also to work with them one on one to improve their literacy skills.

Every page turned helps someone to start a new chapter in their life!

Did you know that rough sleeping can still be deemed a criminal activity and rough sleepers can be fined up to £1000?! 🤯

We'd like to think that attitudes towards homelessness have improved since Charles Dickens' times, when this Act came into force, and thankfully it's currently being discussed in parliament to scrap it for good and to finally address some of the systemic issues that lead to homelessness, including building more affordable housing!

"MPs from across the political spectrum have argued it is time to decriminalise rough sleeping... and to deal with the UK's homelessness crisis..."

We think this can't come soon enough! 👏
